Come Sept. 21, the roller grill at Kwik Trip convenience stores will be no more—but its items still will be sold.

“We felt it was time to consolidate all our hot food choices to our hot grab-and-go cases,” Paul Servais, vice president of food service for the La Crosse, Wisconsin-based convenience-store chain, told CSP. “These cases have a prominent position in our stores and are easily seen by our guests. Testing has shown that making this move is increasing our sales of hot dogs and snacks.”

Sept. 20 is the last day roller grills will operate in Kwik Trips, at which point hot dogs in buns, RollerBites, Tornados and egg rolls will move to the grab-and-go cases, Servais said.

No items are being eliminated.

“We have been testing and working on this for a long time,” Servais said.

Ben Leibl, Kwik Trip spokesperson, told CSP that starting Sept. 21, former roller grill items will be individually wrapped in their new location.

Family-owned Kwik Trip, which is considering building a third distribution center, has 919 locations and is one of the biggest independently held c-store chains in the country. It has locations in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin under the Kwik Trip banner and stores in Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota and South Dakota under the Kwik Star name. Kwik Trip produces more than 80% of the products sold in its stores, supplied by its own bakery, commissary, dairy and distribution center.
