Convenience-store retailers with ambitions toward greater sustainability should take a look at what 7-Eleven is doing.

The c-store giant has partnered with indoor vertical farming company Plenty Unlimited Inc. “to further its commitment to sustainability through the availability of fresh, sustainably grown produce.” Plenty Unlimited is based in South San Francisco, California.

Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven will offer lettuce from Plenty’s Compton, California, indoor farm in two salads—a California Cobb Salad and Chicken Caesar Salad—sold at about 1,300 c-stores in the Golden State.

7-Eleven said this is a big step in offering in customers locally grown produce that meets rigorous sustainability standards.
