As more workers return to the office, convenience stores might want to look into boosting foodservice sales via catering.

Catered lunches grew last year as an incentive for employees to leave home and return to the office, reported ezCater, an ordering platform with over 100,000 restaurant partners nationwide.

In addition to office buildings, catering customers include call centers, manufacturing plants and colleges that feed sports teams, faculty and student groups. CSP sister Foodservice Director first reported the ezCater report.

A survey in December of more than 1,000 people who work at a retail store, warehouse, manufacturing facility or transportation hub found 66% are encouraged by free meals to continue working for their company or to return after the holiday season, ezCater found. These people represent six out of 10 workers in the U.S. who cannot work from home.
