CHICAGO — If it tastes good, it must taste better deep fried, right?
This sentiment, long seen in play at state fairs and other outdoor festivals, has given the American public an array of offbeat, indulgent desserts. One of those desserts, which has been around for about 20 years and boasts more than four million hits on Google, is the deep-fried Oreo, which is also an offering at Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz.
The dessert, which the convenience-store retailer calls “Battered Oreos,” is dipped in batter and deep fried. It’s served with a choice of one of four dipping sauces: peanut butter, chocolate, white chocolate and cream cheese icing.
Sheetz sells Battered Oreos in sets of three or five, at 468 and 781 calories, respectively.
