Stripes Makes Down Payment on 'Tomorrow's Pico de Gallo'

Retailer announces grant for elementary school students to learn about fresh vegetables

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Stripes Convenience Stores has launched a new initiative for elementary school students to learn about fresh vegetables through the "Stripes Fresh Learning Garden Seeded by Laredo Taco Co." grant. The Stripes Fresh Learning Garden will give students in neighboring schools a hands-on experience to understand where food comes from and learn the value of using fresh foods.

Beginning March 17, Stripes c-stores will accept applications to award $200 grants public elementary schools throughout the Stripes market areas to plant the seeds that will be the ingredients for tomorrow's pico de gallo. The company will accept grant applications until April 20.

Teachers interested in applying should visit www.stripesstores.com/giving_back/garden-grant. Selected schools will also receive a "Get a Fresh Start Teachers' Appreciation Breakfast Party" from Stripes stores.

The retailer will distribute the awards by Sept. 1, 2014. A limit of one grant may be awarded per teacher per school. Selected schools should begin to prepare a fall harvest garden by Sept. 30, 2014.
