LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Convenience-store retailer Thorntons’ is combining burgers and burritos into one bite.

Thorntons’ new Fresh Food product launch, BurgerRitos, have the typical features of a burger—ground beef, cheese, bacon and more—wrapped as a burrito. BurgerRitos come in three varieties: Cheesy Breakfast, Classic Bacon and Spicy 3 Pepper.

BurgerRitos are ideal for on-the-go foodservice occasions and combine Thorntons’ strengths with classic, fast-casual dining trends, the company said.

“We’re proud to introduce the BurgerRito to our hotplate line up,” said Brian Scantland, vice president of fresh food operations for Thorntons. “It’s a unique, delicious and craveable fresh food choice available throughout the day for our on-the-go guests. With this innovative approach, we are able to deliver a variety of hot, hearty and portable products that are high quality and full of value.”

Besides BurgerRitos, Thorntons’ fresh food portfolio includes traditional burgers and burritos, hot and cold sandwiches, hot dogs, sausages and bratwursts, fresh doughnuts and specialty items such as Pepperoni Pizza Wedges and Batter-Dipped Corn Dogs.

Based in Louisville, Thorntons operates more than 200 c-stores in six states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida. It is a vertically integrated company with its own fuel terminal, blending plants, transportation fleet and commissary. Thorntons is No. 38 on CSP’s 2020 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of retail outlets.
