SPRINGDALE, Ark. Tyson Foods announced a voluntary recall of about 8.5 million pounds of frozen, fully cooked chicken out of an abundance of caution due to possible exposure to Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium.

The company said it is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on this recall even though there is no conclusive evidence the products were contaminated at the time of shipment.

“We’re committed to providing safe, healthy food that people rely on every day,” said Scott Brooks, senior vice president, food safety and quality assurance, Tyson Foods, Springdale, Ark. “We are taking this precautionary step out of an abundance of caution and in keeping with our commitment to safety.”
