Wawa to Offer Rare Coffee for Limited Time

Direct trade-sourced brew is produced in Mbeya region of Tanzania

WAWA, Pa. --Wawa Inc. is adding a new specialty coffee variety to its premium Reserve line. Wawa Reserve 100% Tanzania is the convenience-store chain’s second limited-time offering of small-batch, rare blends.

The direct trade-sourced coffee is produced in the Mbeya region of Tanzania. Grown at an elevation of 4,800 feet, the coffee has a flavor profile that is bright with notes of concord grape, cocoa and a winelike finish, according to the retailer. The offering will end in early May.

Wawa Reserve highlights beans that make up just 3% of the world’s coffee. A card detailing the coffee’s origin and tasting notes accompanies these rare coffees. The c-store launched the program in January with its 100% Kenya AA variety.

“We are thrilled to offer this special, next-level coffee to our customers through the Wawa Reserve line and give our customers the chance to try an exciting new coffee variety,” said Mike Sherlock, chief fresh food and beverage officer for Wawa. “Keeping up with consumer trends and customer demand has been part of Wawa’s culture since the very beginning, and the Wawa Reserve line of coffees gives customers the chance to explore bold, new flavors at the same cost as our traditional varieties.”

Based is Wawa, Pa., the c-store chain operates about 730 stores in six states.
