Worsley Helping Heroes

Donates five cents from coffee purchases to nonprofit coalition

MCLEAN, Va. -- From February 28 to March 27, the Worsley Cos.' stores will donate five cents from each cup of coffee sold to the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to disabled servicemen and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Customers can purchase coffee at Scotchman Stores, S&E Food Marts, Your Convenience Stores and Young's Food Stores.

We are pleased that Worsley Cos. has stepped up to provide relief to our nation's disabled heroes. The coalition has provided [image-nocss] emergency financial relief, handicap-equipped homes, career resources and many other services to disabled servicemen and women and hopes to do much more, said Ray Clifford, vice president of the Coalition.

With so many of our stores in military areas such as Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Sumter, Charleston, it is important for us to stay proactive and support the community and its families who have fought so hard for our freedom, said Yvette B. Mays, marketing/advertising coordinator for Worsley Cos., Wilmington, N.C.

J.R. Martinez, spokesperson for the coalition, served in Iraq and returned home with life-threatening burns on over 40% of his body. He has seen the need for support services such as the coalition's. Many of the men and women I've been in recovery with are facing not only emotional and physical challenges, but financial hardships that often burden them and their families. The Coalition provides much-needed services to these men and women, said Martinez, who has undergone over 30 surgeries ranging from skin grafts to cosmetic surgery.

The Coalition to Salute America's Heroes (www.saluteheroes.org) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that offers several programs to assist disabled veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan: Wounded Hero Emergency Financial Relief (provides urgent financial assistance to disabled veterans), Homes for Wounded Heroes (offers nearly cost-free, new or renovated disability-adapted homes to men and women), Hire A Hero (reaches out through a network of organizations to help prepare and place motivated, qualified veterans in quality jobs), Family Support Network (offers special services to help relieve financial and emotional burdens facing heroes and their families) and the Road to Recovery Conferences (all-expense paid educational and service events for wounded servicemen and servicewomen and their families).

Worsley Cos. 139 convenience stores are located in North and South Carolina. Each location offers CW's Coffee.
