Salt Lake City-based Maverik Inc. describes its convenience stores in 10 Western states as “Adventure’s First Stop,” and it carries a great-outdoors theme from the stores out to the fuel island. Just like store ceilings, the bottom of the fuel canopy is painted blue to emulate the sky, and outdoor adventure scenes decorate the canopy sides and fuel dispensers.

Maverik c-stores prove a powerful draw for fuel customers. The newest sites measure nearly 5,000 square feet and have more than 40% of their space dedicated to foodservice, which includes made-to-order burritos, frozen yogurt and meal-replacement options, as well as indoor and outdoor seating.

Customers who sign up for Maverik’s Adventure Club earn 2 cents per gallon (CPG) off fuel purchases, while the chain’s Adventure Club Nitro debit card provides a 6-CPG discount. Maverik also offers its own fleet card with volume-based discounts.
