Weigel’s is making hay with foodservice and customer service rather than dirt-cheap gasoline prices. In fact, its fuel price differential is only 0.06 cents per gallon (CPG) less than its average market competition, according to OPIS.

Newer stores, however, are putting a growing emphasis on fuel. A 2016 store opening in Clinton, Tenn., was the c-store chain’s first to include four wide diesel fuel bays, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at the pump, SmartQ technology and Comdata payment solutions. Inside its stores, the Powell, Tenn.-based chain offers made-to-order food for all dayparts at the Weigel’s Kitchens, a dedicated quick foodservice kiosk where customers can order paninis, pizzas, burritos, quesadillas and hot soft pretzels, among other items.
