Road Ranger is a truckstop and travel-center retail operator, partnering with Pilot Flying J at more than 20 of its units across the Midwest. The Rockford, Ill.-based company also previously operated convenience stores but sold them to GPM Investments in 2014 to grow its truckstop business in Texas and Illinois. The company is an aggressive marketer, using its website and social media to communicate to customers.

With most fuel sites along major travel arteries, Road Ranger isn’t focused on being the low-fuel-price leader. Its price differential is only 1.47 cents per gallon (CPG) below its market competition. Instead, the company focuses on truckers and the products (foodservice, HBC, prepaid cellular, etc.) and services they need. A newer site opened in January 2017; it features 24 gasoline pumps, eight diesel pumps, a business kiosk and food options such as Church’s Chicken, Cinnabon, Dickey’s Barbecue and Tejas Tacos.
