Cenex of Minot Changes Name

Will be known as Enerbase to reflect diversity of business holdings
MINOT, N.D. -- Cooperative members of Cenex of Minot received word earlier this month that the company will be undergoing a name change, reported The Minot Daily News. While the legal name will remain Farmers Union Oil Co., the company's board of directors voted last month to adopt the name Enerbase as the company's business name effective June 1, dropping Cenex of Minot.

"We are involved in a lot of things other than petroleum, so we are trying to cover all of those areas with the new name," Art Perdue, general manager of Cenex of Minot, told the newspaper. Those [image-nocss] other areas include their Ace Hardware brand hardware store, farm machinery and parts services, Mr. Tire brand tire center as well as their agronomy products and services.

The company will continue to use the Cenex brand for its petroleum-based businesses, which include five convenience stores in Minot, substations in Glenburn, Washburn and Ryder and Cenex's bulk energy products.

In a letter sent to cooperative members obtained by the paper, the company said, "Enerbase reflects the steadfast, energetic nature of our company and its long-term ability to provide a broad base of products and services."

"This has been in the works for over a year since we did our customer surveys," Perdue said. "It's not something we just decided to do one morning. It was well thought out."

The adoption of the name and logo will begin in early summer, said the report.

Cenex is the energy brand of CHS Inc., St. Paul, Minn. CHS supplies energy, crop nutrients, grain, livestock feed, food and food ingredients, along with business solutions including insurance, financial and risk management services. The company operates petroleum refineries/pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes Cenex brand refined fuels, lubricants, propane and renewable energy products. It also brands approximately 1,600 gas station/convenience stores and travel centers operated by cooperatives such as Cenex of Minot.
