E15 Debuts in Louisiana

Ethanol blend now available in 29 states with addition to RaceTrac site

BATON ROUGE, La. -- E15 gasoline is now available in 29 states with the addition of the 15% ethanol blend at a RaceTrac site in Baton Rouge, La.

RaceTrac Petroleum Inc.began adding E15 to the first of more than 120 of its convenience stores last October, with plans to introduce the fuel in Florida, Georgia, Texas and Louisiana. The first few locations opened in Florida.

RaceTrac also offers E85, the 85% ethanol blend, at around 70 stores, while ethanol-free E0 is sold at 65 sites.

This first Louisiana E15 location adds to a national total that has now reached 672 fueling sites. RaceTrac joins other retailers that have made moves to add the ethanol blend, including Sheetz, Kum & Go, Thorntons, Murphy USA, Mapco, Family Express and Cenex.

“American consumers have surpassed 750 million miles on E15,” said Emily Skor, CEO of ethanol industry group Growth Energy, Washington, in a statement. “When given the option, consumers choose E15, and, thanks to dedicated retailers who care about their customers, more Americans can make this choice.”

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved E15 for use in vehicle models 2001 and newer. The fuel blend offers a higher octane than E10, the 10% ethanol blend, and is priced an average of 5 to 10 cents per gallon lower, according to Growth Energy.

Based in Atlanta, family-owned RaceTrac operates more than 380 RaceTrac-branded convenience stores.
