Fifth Acquisition in Two Years for Flyers

Expands cardlock, lubricants business

AUBURN, Calif. -- Continuing its growth trajectory, Flyers Energy LLC has completed the acquisition of Chevron lubricants distributor RE Goodspeed & Sons Distributing of Hesperia, Calif.

Goodspeed Flyers

Goodspeed comprises cardlocks, bulk fuel, bulk lubricant services and transportation.

Flyers currently distributes branded lubricants throughout California and across northern Nevada.

The Goodspeed acquisition allows Flyers to expand its lubricants business into the high desert.

This marks the fifth acquisition in about two years for Flyers.

In January 2015, Flyers acquired the assets and business operations of Bloomington, Calif.-based Poma Distributing Co. Inc. and Santa Rosa, Calif.-based Redwood Coast Petroleum. It included nine unattended commercial cardlock sites around the Inland Empire and in Sonoma County, wholesale distribution contracts for more than 100 branded gas stations and distribution rights for three commercial lubricants brands in their respective geographic areas. Flyers also acquired the commercial fueling, wholesale contracts and two of 16 convenience stores from Redding Oil, Redding, Calif., in May 2014 and lubricants, delivered fuels and commercial fuel accounts from Allied Washoe, Reno, Nev., in Jan. 2014.

“Our plan for the near future is to consolidate the acquisitions we’ve made over the last two years as we continue to look for specific opportunities in the West that build upon our existing footprint,” managing partner Walt Dwelle said.

Raymond E. Goodspeed founded the company in 1980. Four of Raymond’s children and one grandson eventually went on to run and work in the business.

“We found Flyers Energy to be the best company to continue the service, customer care and superior products the Goodspeed companies have been providing the past 36 years,” they said in a joint letter to customers announcing the sale.

Auburn, Calif.-based Flyers Energy, operations include transportation, commercial fueling, distribution of passenger car, heavy-duty and industrial lubricants, wholesale and branded retail fuel, as well as generation of renewable fuels and power. The largest member of the Commercial Fueling Network, Flyers is also the marketer for Chevron, Shell, Valero and 76 branded gas stations and offers commercial fueling at 230,000 gas stations nationwide with the Flyers Fleet Card.
