Growing an Empire

Jackson Oil purchases Brico of Idaho

TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- Jackson Oil Inc. has purchased Brico of Idaho Inc., according to a report by The Idaho Statesman. Jackson Oil, owned by Meridian, Idaho-based Jackson Food Stores Inc., distributes fuel to about 300 Shell, Texaco, Phillips and Chevron gas stations in eight western states, said the report.

It was a natural fit for us, Tony Stone, president of Jackson Oil, told the newspaper. It was an opportunity to grow the Chevron brand, and Brico is currently already in our marketing areas.

Stone did not disclose how much [image-nocss] Jackson Oil paid for Twin Falls, Idaho-based Brico, which the paper said is one of Idaho's top 75 private companies. Before the sale, Brico distributed about 30 million gallons of Chevron gasoline per year in southern Idaho, northern Nevada and eastern Oregon, the report said. Brico customers should notice little change, Stone said; all retail outlets will remain open, but they will be supplied and operated by Jackson Oil.

Jackson Oil has sold some of its convenience stores, warehouses and bulk plants to Franklin United Inc. of Twin Falls and Twin Stop LLC of Twin Falls, the report added. The acquisition of Brico gives Jackson Oil about 30 additional retail outlets.

Stone said Jackson Oil also is getting into the fuel-transportation business, and will begin hauling Chevron jet fuel to Boise Airport.

The company will continue to be headquartered in Meridian, Stone said. There could be limited layoffs at Brico, he added.

Charley Jones, president and co-owner of Boise, Idaho-based Fearless Farris's Stinker Stationsone of Jackson Oil's competitorstold the Statesman that he sees Jackson as an honest and tough competitor. In the past three months, Stinker has acquired three c-stores, of which previously belonged to Jackson, Jones said. He's not trying to put me out of business, he's just trying to grow his empire, he told the paper. More power to him.

Jackson Oil is owned by CEO John Jackson, chairman of the Shell National Jobbers Council.
