Gulf Oil Grows in Georgia

Forges deal with Mountain Express Oil to rebrand as many as 30 locations
WOODSTOCK, Ga. & FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Gulf Oil LP has announced a branded partnership agreement with Mountain Express Oil Co., Woodstock, Ga. Drivers will soon see more than two-dozen Gulf motor fuel retail outlets throughout the northern region of the state and southwest South Carolina.

This is the first time in 20 years that a Gulf Oil-branded gas station has operated in Georgia.

Earlier this week, Gulf announced new branded partnership agreement with Acree Oil Co. of Toccoa, Ga. Acree Oil will convert six of its BP-branded stations to the Gulf brand. (Click here for previous CSP Daily News coverage.)

"Within the next 15 months, we will rebrand 30 outlets to the Gulf brand," said Barry Bierenbaum, president of Mountain Express Oil. "Gulf is a company that's committed to its distributors and retail customers, and we are proud to welcome the Gulf brand to our family. The enthusiasm displayed by the Gulf employees and our future Gulf customers and retailers made this a very easy decision."

Gulf Oil senior vice president and chief sales and marketing officer Rick Dery said, "This partnership with Mountain Express is the latest element in establishing the brand's reputation as a premium nationwide gasoline retailer. We are heartened by the enthusiasm Georgia's distributors are showing to the Gulf brand."

Earlier this year, Gulf signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves. Baseball fans will notice the Gulf "Sunrise" logo displayed behind home plate during all home games at Turner Field. (Click here for previous coverage.)

Mountain Express Oil was founded in 2000 by Barry and Gail Bierenbaum, the company said on its website. Barry Bierenbaum has more than 30 years of management experience in the gas and convenience store industry. The company now supply more than 125 accounts. Current brands offered include Texaco, Chevron, Marathon and unbranded.

Framingham, Mass.-based Gulf Oil is now a national branded supplier of motor fuels throughout the United States and its territories. It remains one of the Northeast's largest wholesalers of refined petroleum products. Gulf Oil distributes motor fuels through a network of more than 2,000 branded gasoline retail centers, 12 proprietary oil terminals and a network of more than 70 other supply terminals. Gulf Oil supplies gasoline, heating oil, diesel fuel, jet fuel and kerosene through its terminal network. Through its unbranded subsidiary, Great Island Energy, it also supplies petroleum products as well as risk management and financial services to industrial, commercial, and independent retail firms.
