OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- Compressed natural gas (CNG) continues to pop up at retail fueling locations across the United States.
Speedway LLC, Enon, Ohio, has opened its third CNG site, and its second site in partnership with IGS CNG Services, Dublin, Ohio. The Speedway, in South Bend, Ind., now features two fuel lanes with four hoses dedicated to CNG.
In 2014, Speedway had partnered with IGS on a CNG site at a store in Findlay, Ohio. It has a third CNG fueling location in Monona, Wis., operated in partnership with a local gas and electric utility since 2013.
“We’re pleased to offer a domestic fueling option that is convenient to fleets traveling the I-80 corridor,” said Scott White, president of IGS Energy, the parent company of IGS CNG Services. This marks IGS’ 11th public CNG fueling site, and its first in Indiana.
In Iowa, Sapp Bros Inc. has partnered with Stirk CNG on adding CNG to its travel stop in Council Bluffs. The location will be Omaha, Neb.-based Sapp’s third CNG site with Stirk CNG, Lincoln, Neb. At an October 28 grand opening, visitors will be able to access its two fast-fill CNG dispensers, optimized for filling Class 8 trucks. A fourth CNG site is nearing completion at Sapp Bros.’ Commerce City, Colo., travel center, joining locations in Lincoln and Columbus, Neb.
And in Florida, Jacksonville-based GATE Petroleum Co. is adding CNG to one of its sites as part of its joint venture with amp Trillium LLC, Chicago. The site, a GATE station in Jacksonville, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all CNG vehicles, including Class 8 trucks. It features Trillium’s proprietary fast-fill hydraulic intensifier compressor, which is capable of filling three Class 8 trucks simultaneously at 10 diesel gallon equivalents per minute, according to amp Trillium. This is GATE’s first CNG site.
“Adding a CNG fueling station is consistent with the GATE philosophy of being responsive to all of our customers’ fueling requirements,” said John Peyton, president of GATE. “With proximity to the Port of Jacksonville and I-295, our first retail location is ideally positioned to service the needs of both retail and commercial customers while offering a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly fuel alternative.”
This will be amp Trillium’s 24th CNG station in the United States, and its second in north Florida.
