Vermont Energy Raises Funds for Sustainable Gas Station, C-Stores

Seeking to expand beyond flagship "green" location
FERRISBURG, Vt. -- The Vermont Energy Co. has attracted a $260,000 seed investment, a new Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) filing revealed, to grow its environmental-minded gas station and convenience store business, according to a report by TechCrunch.com

Currently, the Ferrisburg, Vt.-based company operates a flagship store and four-dispenser station in Burlington, Vt. The company said that it hopes to become a leading supplier of alternative fuels over time, and stock its shelves with sustainable items alongside select, traditional packaged goods.

The [image-nocss] concept is to offer a sustainable alternative to 7-Eleven or Mobil and other leading gas station and c-stores, it said.

Vermont Energy said that it hopes to become the go-to, roadside brand for drivers seeking grease diesel or other advanced and clean fuels.

It currently offers drivers of fuel-efficient cars a discount on gasoline. Run under the name The Good Carma program, the discount is based on the miles-per-gallon ratings of customers' vehicles. Such programs, if they became available nationally, could help encourage consumers to upgrade their rides to more fuel-efficient vehicles, the company said.

The store offers food and snacks such as organic meatloaf sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, local micro-batch chips, homemade cookies and fruit-on-a-stick.
