Wuest’s Is VP Racing's 'Newest & Nearest' Retail Partner

Converting Pic-n-Pac convenience stores in greater San Antonio area

McQUEENEY, Texas -- Wuest’s Inc. has signed on as the "newest and nearest" distributor to join VP Racing Fuels' retail branding program. Based in McQueeney, Texas, Wuest’s Inc. owns and operates 15 Pic-n-Pac convenience stores and services two other retail locations in the greater San Antonio area.

Initially, Wuest’s has targeted four c-stores rebranding with VP Racing Fuels, including two in Seguin, one in McQueeney and one in Lockhart, Texas.

Although familiar with VP’s race fuel business, Phil Wuest, director of operations for Wuest’s, said he was surprised to learn about what he describes as VP’s “branded unbranded” program.

“VP has the look of a major brand with its attractive, professional image, but offers the chance to buy unbranded supply to compete more effectively with grocery chains, super chains and major brands,” he said. “Another driving factor for us was the substantial savings we expect from VP’s low credit-card processing fees and elimination of monthly network fees, plus we’ll generate new revenue streams from VP’s race fuels, additives and apparel. All these products appeal to race fans and gearheads who are drawn to VP because of its reputation in racing.”

He continued, “VP’s program gives us more control over our business and our facilities, without anyone dictating or assessing penalties for noncompliance. It was also important to us to have an appealing brand to offer as a jobber to other retailers.”

Alan Cerwick, president of VP Racing Fuels, said, “We’re extremely pleased to welcome Wuest’s Inc. as a retail branding partner, particularly given they’re here in our own backyard" in the greater San Antonio area.

Based in San Antonio, VP has fueled champions in every form of motorsport on land, sea and air since 1975. VP is the official racing fuel of Tudor United SportsCar Championship, AMA Supercross, TORC: The Off Road Championship, NMRA, NMCA, World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and Late Models, Pirelli World Challenge, PDRA and Rally America, among more than 60 VP-sponsored series and sanctioning bodies.

Gas stations and convenience stores that join VP's retail branding program also distribute VP’s other product lines, including ethanol-free VP Small Engine Fuels, formulated for two-cycle and four-cycle outdoor power equipment; VP Madditive performance chemicals; VP PowerWash and more. VP also markets VP PowerMaster hobby fuels for radio-controlled (R/C) racing.

Pic-n-Pac is a privately held, family owned and operated business. Founded in 1964, the chain is the legacy of Harvey Edward Wuest, who owned and operated nine Wuest Supermarkets in and around the Seguin, Texas, area until his death in 1962. Since the company opened its first convenience store in 1964, it has grown to 15 locations under the ownership of Wuest’s children and grandchildren.
