Terrible Herbst Selects Gilbarco for POS

Replacing existing system with Passport, Impulse at 108 c-stores

LAS VEGAS -- Terrible Herbst Inc. will be replacing the existing point-of-sale (POS) systems at all 108 convenience stores with Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Passport POS system and Impulse upselling platform.

Las Vegas-based Terrible Herbst selected the Gilbarco suite for its reliability, flexible merchandising functionality and availability on the Chevron network, Gilbarco said. Passport's design will allow it to streamline EMV(Europay MasterCard and Visa) upgrades through the interface with existing dispensers.

"We're known for our out-of-the-box customer giveaways and promotions," said Terrible Herbst's vice president of sales and marketing Mark Walters. "Passport and Impulse are proven solutions that will make them even more targeted and effective."

"The Impulse upselling platform has led to sales increases of 3% to 5% for our customers," said Gilbarco's vice president of marketing for North America, Travis Bouck. "Impulse allows Terrible Herbst to control their promotions, delivering relevant content that drives their customers to purchase additional items in-store."

Passport POS has a streamlined design and touch screen that help shorten new employee training time and speed up the time it takes to serve customers. This EMV-ready POS also has open interfaces to third-party c-store systems, enabling convenience-store owners to satisfy their consumers' needs for loyalty, merchandising and discount opportunities.

Impulse Gilbarco's countertop merchandising platform uses a proprietary affinity engine that monitors POS transactions in real-time and performs predictive analytics, displays the most relevant offer on a customer-facing touch screen and then signals the cashier to the upsell opportunity. When combined with Passport, the Impulse upselling platform reaches c-store customers during checkout to provide relevant and timely communications or offers and maximize upsell opportunities.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a worldwide technology leader for retail and commercial fueling operations. It offers a broad range of integrated solutions from the forecourt to the convenience store and head office.

Terrible Herbst consists of more than 40 car washes, 21 lube locations and more than 100 convenience stores and gas stations in the Las Vegas area. The stores also offer value-priced beverages, cigarettes and more.
