7-Eleven is bringing the excitement of hockey to the gas pump with a new nationwide promotion tied to the performance of the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

“The team is starting the year off right, racking up four wins in February and giving fans plenty to cheer about,” the convenience retailer said in a statement. “Now, fans can celebrate these victories both on the ice and at the pump.”

Fans who text in will receive an initial 11 cents off per gallon of fuel, valid for two weeks from the date of enrollment, according to NHL.com. By texting STARSWIN to 711711, fans also can unlock additional discounts that grow as the Dallas Stars pile up wins at participating 7-Eleven stores nationwide, the retailer said. Each month’s discount matches the Dallas Stars’ total wins to date, continuing through April. The March offer is 36 cents off per gallon.

This isn’t the first time a convenience-store chain has partnered with a professional sports team. Oklahoma City-based Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores has supported the Oklahoma City Thunder since the basketball team’s arrival to town in 2008. QuikTrip, and several other c-store chains like Sheetz, have made patch partnerships with MLB teams.
