Alon Expands Reduced-Emissions Fuel Offer

STRIVE program from GreenPrint now available at all of its Albuquerque sites

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --Alon Brands is expanding its participation in a program that provides carbon offsets for gasoline purchases to all of its convenience stores in the Albuquerque, N.M., market.

In June, Alon announced plans to roll out the STRIVE reduced-emissions fuel program from GreenPrint LLC, Atlanta, to 122 pumps at 23 of its sites in Albuquerque.

How it works: GreenPrint calculates the vehicle tailpipe emissions for each gallon of gasoline sold at participating Alon sites, and then invests in projects that will offset up to 30% of them.

Happy with the early results at these first sites, Alon is now expanding STRIVE to 14 more sites, the company said, making it available at all 312 pumps in the market. All grades of gasoline at the Alon sites are eligible for offsets, at no additional cost to the customer.

The program also required no new software, hardware or equipment for Alon to implement.

Besides supporting the environment, Alon hopes the program will build incremental volume and sales, increase loyalty and change consumer behavior.

“As we continue the growth of the Alon footprint in Albuquerque, we’re thrilled to see the positive impact that STRIVE Fuel is bringing to the community and to our stations,” said Jonathan Ketchum, senior vice president of operations at Dallas-based Alon.

The STRIVE program has offset more than 18 million pounds of CO2 from Alon’s Albuquerque fuel customers since it debuted in July 2015. In addition, the Albuquerque community has benefitted with the planting of more than 1,000 trees in the Santa Fe National Forest and along the Rio Grande River. Alon and STRIVE also sponsored the 2015 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, providing for the carbon-neutral flight of 550 hot-air balloons.

“The fact that Alon gas stations are making our environment and our community a priority, is a really great feeling,” said Albuquerque resident and Alon customer Rudy Arviso. “I got to plant trees with my family along the Rio Grande with Tree New Mexico because of the Strive program and Alon, and that day is one that we often reminisce about. I think it’s a great program, and I hope to see it at every gas station one day.”

Based in Dallas, Alon Brands markets Alon motor fuel products at more than 800 gas stations and convenience stores and is the largest 7-Eleven licensee in North America.
