Costco is set to open its first standalone gas station by the end of June in California, and it already has plans for a second one in Hawaii.
The city of Mission Viejo, California, confirmed in June 2025 that Costco would build its first fuel-only location in the city at 25732 El Paseo. City spokesman Robert Schick told CSP Monday that Costco plans to open that location to the public by the end of June 2026. This will be Costco’s largest fuel facility, with 40 gas pumps, Schick said.
There’s also a standalone Costco gas station scheduled to open in Hawaii in 2027. The gas station will be in Kalihi, a neighborhood of Honolulu, at Dillingham Boulevard and Colburn Street.
The station is part of a project called ʻŌlauniu at Kapālama Kai (rendering pictured above), run by Kamehameha Schools. The project entails the redevelopment of the former Dillingham Plaza “with a continued commitment to creating a vibrant indigenous Hawaiian gather space,” according to the project’s website. The center will also feature retail, dining and gathering areas and office space.

“We are beginning the process to welcome Costco Gas to ʻŌlauniu,” Kamehameha Schools told CSP in a statement on March 11. “This new station expands Costco’s services, giving those living, working in and visiting Kapālama Kai a convenient, affordable option to fuel their vehicles in addition to the Iwilei location. The proposed site will be located on a parcel between Colburn Street and Dillingham Boulevard in Kapālama Kai.”
Demolition and preparation of the property began in October 2025, according to the project’s website. Kamehameha Schools said it plans to connect with the community during the permitting process.
“Costco Gas at ʻŌlauniu is more than a fueling station—it’s part of a larger transformation that supports Kapālama Kai as a hub of connectivity by integrating efficient traffic design and improved circulation,” Kamehameha Schools continued in its statement.
