On-Demand Fuel Service Yoshi Expands

Startup adds Twin Cities and Tampa markets to service area

SAN FRANCISCO -- With a recent infusion of cash, Yoshi has launched its on-demand fueling service in two new markets: Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., and Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.

Yoshi provides on-demand fill-ups, oil changes, car washes and other vehicle maintenance services. Consumers order, specify a time and location for the services, then Yoshi brings the service to the customer. Orders are paid for through Yoshi’s app.

In early February, Yoshi announced it had received $13.7 million in funding from investors, including ExxonMobil and General Motors, to help fuel its expansion into 25 markets from its original five of San Francisco and Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; Nashville; and Atlanta. The first new market for Yoshi in 2018 was Chicago, where it began offering services in the Humboldt Park, North Center and Lincoln Park neighborhoods.

Yoshi is now offering service to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul, as well as Edina and Woodbury, Minn. In Florida, Yoshi is serving downtown and north St. Petersburg and South Tampa. It is offering new customers in the Minneapolis and Tampa markets a free one-month trial and a $10 credit. It plans to expand its coverage in both markets quickly.

CEO Nick Alexander said that Yoshi chose both markets for their large population of car commuters.

“Frequent stops at the gas station and service station for fueling and maintenance are a nuisance and an interruption for today’s busy consumers,” said Alexander. “Yoshi was designed to help make car owners’ lives easier, delivering on-site refueling and car maintenance to give people back some time in their day. It has proven to very popular in each city we’re in, with double-digit growth each month—we’re looking forward to the same great reception in the Tampa and Minneapolis areas.”
