As devastating wildfires ravage the Los Angeles area, with at least 10 people reported dead as of Friday, the California Fuels & Convenience Alliance (CFCA) said it is working with the Fuel Relief Fund to provide critical resources and emergency fuel to affected communities.

Dion & Sons, a fuel distributor and CFCA member, is delivering thousands of gallons of fuel to base camps supporting firefighting operations and emergency responders for the Palisades and Hurst wildfires and helping to ensure that first responders have the resources they need to protect lives and property during this state of emergency.

“These fires are breaking our hearts. We are grateful to support the fire departments during this unprecedented time in our history,” Long Beach, California-based Dion & Sons said in a social media post.

“We have been actively assisting the Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County Fire Department," Dion & Sons also said in a blog post on its website. “Initially, we were called to service the Palisades Fire, and now we have been deployed to the Hurst Fire in Sylmar. Under contract with the Los Angeles Fire Department, we are now involved in two of the three major incidents in Southern California. Our dedicated team has a stationary truck at Palisades, with a crew of three working regular shifts and staying on site. Additionally, we have two crews, each consisting of two members and a truck, servicing the Hurst (Sylmar) fire on a shift basis and commuting to the site.”

CFCA also is advocating for an hours-of-service (HOS) waiver for those aiding in the emergency response effort. These waivers would allow vehicles engaged in fuel transportation for emergency relief efforts to extend their maximum driving limits, ensuring that fuel can be delivered promptly to areas that need it. Such measures are critical for sustaining emergency operations and assisting communities in crisis, CFCA said.

“The fuels industry plays a crucial role in disaster relief by keeping essential operations running,” said CFCA CEO Elizabeth Graham. “We are proud of our partnership with the Fuel Relief Fund and the incredible efforts of members like Dion & Sons, who are providing immediate, life-saving support to our communities.”

Sacramento, California-based CFCA is a statewide trade association representing the needs of small and minority wholesale and retail marketers of gasoline, diesel, lubricating oils, motor fuels products and alternative fuels, including hydrogen, compressed natural gas, ethanol, biodiesel and electric charging stations; transporters of those products; and retail convenience-store operators. CFCA’s members serve California’s families, agriculture, police and fire, cities, construction and consumer goods moved by the delivery and transportation industries.

The Fuel Relief Fund is an organization that delivers emergency fuel and essential resources during crises worldwide.
