BOSTON -- GasBuddy has added a new Savings feature to its mobile app that allows users to earn discounts on gasoline while shopping at participating online retailers.

Through the GasBuddy app’s Savings tab, users can find a list of online merchants that offer the ability to earn GasBack credits toward gasoline purchases. After selecting an offer and shopping online, GasBuddy users earn up to 10% of the purchase in GasBack credits, which are added to their GasBuddy account and are redeemable at participating gas stations. A beta test of the program launched in October 2018 with 11 retail brands: Audible, Dick’s Sporting Goods, GetAround, Houzz, Lyft, Macy’s, MillerCoors, ParkWhiz, Peasy, Petco and Wayfair.

“Gas is one the largest expenses for American families, and we have developed multiple ways for consumers to get free gas,” said Sarah McCrary, CEO of Boston-based GasBuddy. “The Savings tab is another example of how we’re creating tools to empower our users.”

To earn and redeem GasBack savings, customers sign up for the Pay With GasBuddy card, which also offers a 5-cent-per-gallon (CPG) discount on gasoline purchased at thousands of participating gas stations.

The new Savings feature follows GasBuddy’s November 2018 launch of the Park With GasBuddy tool, which helps users find discounted parking while earning GasBack rebates. The GasBack program has more than 450,000 participants who have seen a total of $3 million in savings through 5.5 million transactions with the Pay With GasBuddy card.
