Murphy USA, AtoB create fuel card that better serves small businesses

Convenience-store chain program offers easier credit approval with criteria that better fit the needs of new and growing businesses

Murphy USA is partnering with AtoB, a fuel payments and technology platform based in San Francisco, to launch business fuel cards created specifically for companies and commercial operators.

The new cards give businesses of all sizes more purchasing power and clearer savings, according to El Dorado, Arkansas-based Murphy USA, which owns QuickChek convenience stores.

The new fuel card provides maximum savings of 20 cents per gallon for 12 months. After the first year, cardholders are eligible to receive a discount of up to 9 cents per gallon depending on the fuel amount.

QuickChek cardholders who enroll in QuickChek Rewards will receive 1,000 bonus points and 10% off in‑store on select merchandise (excluding spirits, tobacco, lottery and gift cards).

Across the chain’s more than 1,700 locations, customers will gain realtime spend controls, digital onboarding, enhanced fraud protection, customer service and transparent pricing.

Why the c-store chain is expanding its fleet card program

Many of Murphy’s fleet customers are small businesses that said they often didn’t qualify for traditional fleet card programs, Murphy said. Murphy USA identified that traditional underwriting was excluding too many qualified businesses who deserve a chance to net real savings with fuel card controls, Murphy said.

Through this new partnership, businesses will experience a wider credit aperture with criteria that recognize the realities of early‑stage businesses, such as thin files, newer EINs (employee I.D. numbers) and variable seasonal cash flow without compromising spend controls, Murphy said. 

The program grows with the customer

Instead of binary approval and denial processes, Murphy now offers:

  • Prepaid and hybrid products that allow new businesses to start fueling immediately
  • A pathway to build credit and transition to full credit lines as the business matures
  • Real‑time controls, instant fraud alerts and risk management

This model ensures more customers can scale their gallons over time, creating higher long‑term value for both customers and Murphy USA. the company said.

Murphy USA operates New Jersey-based QuickChek and other c-store chains in 27 states, located primarily in the Southwest, Southeast, Midwest and Northeast. It acquired QuickChek in January 2021.
