Schmuckal Closes Two Stations in Mich.

Locations don't fit strategy

CADILLAC, Mich. -- A Shell gas station in Cadillac, Mich., closed its doors Tuesday night with no plans to reopen, reported The Cadillac News.

Kevin Schmuckal, vice president of retail operations for Schmuckal Oil Co., said that the gas station had been closed because it didn't fit in with the company's future plans. We put together a long-term growth strategy for the company, and it just didn't fit,VbCrLf he told the newspaper. It was a quick decision to close and an extremely difficult situation.VbCrLf

As for the seven employees, Schmuckal [image-nocss] said most have found work by transferring to other operations. He said it was very important that the employees are taken care of.

Schmuckal said there were no plans to reopen, but the building is up for lease for anyone interested in opening a station. One of the companys stations in Traverse City, Mich., was shut down as well, the report added.

Traverse City-based Schmuckal Oil operates more than 20 Shell- and Marathon-branded locations in the state.
