Shell has entered its fifth year of “The Giving Pump” at gas stations across the United States benefiting 400 local and national charities.

Running through Oct. 31, a portion of purchases made by consumers who use the designated purple pump at select Shell stations will support multiple charities that support children and families, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, and The Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled, in Carlinville, Illinois.

Starting at 2,900 locations in 2021, the number of Shell stations participating in this two-month initiative has grown to nearly 6,500 across the United States.

“The Giving Pump goes to show how small choices—like where you fuel up—can add up to meaningful change,” said Barbara Stoyko, senior vice president of Shell Mobility and Convenience Americas.

Stoyko said the initiative works so well because of Shell’s generous retailers.

“They are the ones selecting the charities benefited by our purple pumps because they know the causes that matter most to the customers in their communities,” she said. “It's really a special time of year for Shell and it makes me so grateful that we can collaborate with them and our customers to create real, local impacts.”

Shell serves about 8 million customers per day with a brand presence at approximately 12,000 gas stations across 49 states. It owns and operates nearly 200 convenience retail sites. Globally, Shell serves around 32 million customers per day at its mobility sites, who visit for quality fuels, electric vehicle (EV) charging and convenience and non-fuel products and services.
