Trillium Energy Solutions, an alternative fueling solutions company owned by Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, is rebranding to Love’s Alternative Energy as part of an effort to streamline and maximize Love’s brand equity across driver-facing offerings in the marketplace, the company said Monday.

Love’s acquired Trillium in 2016. Trillium designs, builds, operates and maintains hundreds of alternative fueling stations nationwide with products including compressed natural gas (CNG), hydrogen, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and low-carbon energy supply from renewable natural gas (RNG).

“As alternative energy solutions continue to grow, this rebrand is a natural evolution of Trillium’s legacy, and expansion of the Love’s value proposition to provide customer segments with fueling options at public and private facilities across the U.S. and Canada,” said Ryan Erickson, vice president of Alternative Energy for Love’s. “Trillium brings more than 30 years of experience serving customers in the refuse and transit space, while Love’s has strong relationships with fleets and the public traveling across America’s highways. That’s a powerful combination for fleet operators and motorists looking to reduce costs and emissions.”

On Friday, Trillium Energy Solutions acquired U.S. Energy’s CNG dispensing network. The deal included a mix of 41 public and private stations across 15 states in the United States and three in Canada. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“This network expansion reinforces Trillium’s and Love’s commitment to providing every fuel type our customers need,” Erickson said. “We have recently seen an increased interest in CNG as a clean alternative fuel from both our private sector fleet and trucking customers. Adding these stations grows our network quite significantly, which unlocks more value and access for customers. Utilizing the expanded network, our collective CNG customers will have significantly more fueling options to continue or expand their CNG fleet operations.”

CNG is produced by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. CNG is used in light-, medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. A CNG-powered vehicle gets about the same fuel economy as one running on conventional gasoline.

Trillium’s team will operate and maintain these stations. It also has plans for a new CNG build in Fresno, California, that’s slated to open later this year, Love’s said.

The Love’s Family of Companies, based in Oklahoma City, also includes Gemini Motor Transport, Musket Corp. and Speedco. Love’s Travel Stops operates 656 convenience stores and travel stops in 42 states. It provides services for professional drivers, fleets, four-wheel customers, RV drivers and more.
