Parker's Golf Event Raises $55,000

First annual Fueling the Community Charity Golf Tournament benefits Ga., S.C. schools

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The first annual Parker's Fueling the Community Charity Golf Tournament, held on Oct. 29, 2013, at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga., raised more than $55,000 to benefit area schools.

Parker's First Place: Pepsi (Jason Mongin, Bill Eakins, Bobby Lane and Sean Bishop).

The tournament attracted 128 players from across the region, including Parker's vendors, suppliers and supporters. Proceeds will benefit Georgia and South Carolina schools in areas where Parker's operates convenience stores.

"We're so deeply grateful for all the support today," said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker's. "Our Fueling the Community program has been a tremendous success, but this additional support will enable us to make even more generous donations to public and private schools in the future."

The winning teams at the Fueling the Community Charity Golf Tournament included the following:

  • First Place: Pepsi (Jason Mongin, Bill Eakins, Bobby Lane and Sean Bishop).
  • Second Place: Ultimate Sales (Wes Stone, Jonathon Stone, Tom Mclaughlin and Fred Brupbacher).
  • Third Place: Verizon (Jim Hargreaves, Kent Gregory, Arthur Peagler and James Stevens).

Meanwhile, Parker's has presented a $3,000 Fueling the Community check to Effingham County Schools at Guyton Elementary School in Guyton, Ga. The unrestricted donation is part of a larger unrestricted charitable contribution to area schools in Georgia and South Carolina.

"We're deeply committed to giving back to every community where Parker's does business," said Greg Parker, president and CEO of Parker's. "I'm a firm believer that education is the key to future success, so it's truly my pleasure to support the hard-working teachers and administrators at Effingham County Schools."

Parker's donates one cent of every gallon of gas purchased at all of its convenience stores on the first Wednesday of the month to area schools through the Fueling the Community program. The company's charitable initiative officially launched in the fall of 2011 and has donated money to public and private schools throughout Georgia and South Carolina.

Parker's customers can sign up for a PumpPal card online at www.PumpPalClub.com to select a school of their choice for their one cent per gallon donation. Existing PumpPal members can access their account online and select a specific school to receive donations.

Savannah, Ga.-based Parker's currently operates 32 convenience stores across the region.
