Spinx Gives Away Free Gas for a Year

Honors South Carolina resident for March of Babies fundraising efforts

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Upstate South Carolina resident Eric Ashemore gathered recently with leaders from The Spinx Co. and the March of Dimes to receive the grand prize for this year’s March for Babies fundraising efforts—free gas for a year from Spinx.

Stan Storti, president of Greenville, S.C.-based convenience-store and gasoline retailer Spinx, presented the prize.

“At Spinx, making our communities a better place to live, work and play is a core value that stems from our founder, Stewart Spinks, and is shared by every team member across our company,” said Storti. “Because children are at the center of our giving mission, and having been touched by prematurity through my own son, it gives me great pride and satisfaction to present you with gift cards for one year of free gas.”

This is the fifth year Spinx has given away a year of free gas to a March of Dimes supporter. For every $100 raised or donated an individual raised in conjunction with the March for Babies walk, that individual’s name is entered to win the grand prize.

Ashemore has supported March of Dimes since 2006. This year he donated via a payroll deduction option offered by his employer, Electrolux. Electrolux is Anderson County’s No. 1 March of Dimes fundraising team, raising $150,000 this year.

When asked about his connection with the March of Dimes, Ashemore said, “I was a preemie and my daughter was a preemie.” His daughter is now 17.

The presentation of the prize took place August 28 at a Spinx convenience store in Anderson, S.C.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Spinx operates 80 convenience retail stores throughout South Carolina. Stewart Spinks founded the company in 1972.
