JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One year after 7-Eleven executives announced their triumphant return to Northeast Florida, the company has officially opened 12 stores in the area, with at least four more permitted to start construction in 2013, according to a report in the Jacksonville Business Journal.
After a 20-year hiatus, the Dallas-based convenience store chain announced plans to open 80 stores in the market by 2015 during an event in March 2012 attended by Gov. Rick Scott, Mayor Alvin Brown and company president and CEO Joe De Pinto.
Although the company fell short of its original goal to open 15 to 20 stores in the area in 2012, company spokesperson Margaret Chabris said it still hopes to reach its original goal of 80 by 2015.
