7-Eleven's DePinto to Receive McLane Leadership in Business Award

Will be honored Oct. 2 by Mosbacher Institute at Bush School, Texas A&M University

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics & Public Policy at the Bush School, Texas A&M University, will honor Joseph M. DePinto, president and CEO of 7-Eleven, Inc., with the 2012 McLane Leadership in Business Award on October 2.

The event will be held at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, located in the George Bush Presidential Library Complex.

The event is free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Established by Drayton McLane Jr., an entrepreneur and chairman of the McLane Group, the McLane Leadership in Business Award annually recognizes a prominent individual in the field of business for outstanding contributions in the area of business, public service or community service at the national level. The award highlights different roles that business plays in maintaining the economic, political and social vitality of the nation.

The 7-Eleven company is a leader in convenience retailing. Globally, there are approximately 47,600 7-Eleven stores, 9,400 of which are in North America. Currently under DePinto's leadership, 7-Eleven has grown dramatically from an organization that began as an ice house in Dallas in 1927.

Before being appointed  CEO of 7-Eleven Inc., in 2005, DePinto was president of GameStop Corp. He also has held executive positions at PepsiCo Inc. and Thornton Oil Corp. In 2010, DePinto was featured on CBS's show Undercover Boss.

DePinto serves on a number of corporate and nonprofit boards of directors: 7-Eleven, Brinker International, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), Business Executives for National Security, SMU's Cox School of Business, Lone Star Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Command and General Staff College Foundation and the National Italian American Foundation. He also is a member of the advisory councils for Outlook Leadership, the Pro Players Foundation, the Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth, and is a Network of Executive Women Champion.

A native of Chicago, DePinto earned a bachelor's degree in engineering management from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a master of business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He and his wife, Ingrid, and their four sons reside in Southlake, Texas.

The Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics & Public Policy at the Bush School of Government and Public Service was founded in October 2009 to produce policy-oriented research in trade, energy and good governance.
