CSP’s 2016 Retail Leader of the Year: Robert J. Myers

Casey’s General Stores president and CEO honored in 14th year of award

CHICAGO -- CSP is proud to announce Robert J. Myers, chairman and recently retired CEO of Casey’s General Stores, as the 2016 Retail Leader of the Year. Myers’ achievements will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the annual CSP/Winsight invitation-only dinner and toast at the Loews Atlanta Hotel during the NACS Show.

Now entering its 14th year, CSP’s Retail Leader of the Year dinner and toast honors a convenience-retailing executive for leadership excellence, innovation within the chain and perseverance within his or her company, positively transforming the organization to new and higher levels. Past honorees have included Tony Kenney, president of Speedway LLC; Sam L. Susser, chairman of Susser Petroleum Partners; John MacDougall, president and CEO of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes; Don Zietlow, CEO of Kwik Trip; and Joe DePinto, president and CEO of 7-Eleven Inc.

“Many will know Bob as the veteran leader of one of our industry’s best chains,” said Mitch Morrison, vice president and retail executive platform director for Winsight. “But what everyone should know about Bob is his humanity, passion for our military vets, his love of community and his adoration of children. Bob is an extraordinary individual, and we are truly humbled to honor such a wonderful spirit.”

Myers’ joined Casey’s after retiring from the Army in 1988 and has spent more than 26 years with the company. During his nine-year tenure as CEO, he helped Casey’s expand its brand and increase its profit margin. Casey’s ranks among the top 10 doughnut retailers in the United States and in 2015, Casey’s sold 19 million pizzas and 62 million slices, making them the fifth-largest pizza chain in the county. That same year, Casey’s and its stores contributed more than $4.5 million to community and charitable organizations and events.
