A monthly digest from the convenience store industry's online directory

MESA, Ariz. --The staff of CSPedia, CSP Business Media's online encyclopedia of convenience store chains, gathers new insights and news and updates the listings for the nearly 500 retailers in its database on a daily basis. CSPedia delivers a monthly summary of these reports, often news not yet announced publicly, to its subscribers.

People on the Move

  • Bonfare Markets Inc. (Kapoor Enterprises). Hulu Hill is area director for fuel.
  • CEFCO Convenience Stores (Fikes Wholsale). Lorne Brockway has replaced Brian Cator as vice president of information technology; Jay Hobson has replaced Derek Schmitt as foodservice director; Jack Whitney is vice president of operations; Troy Causey is regional director for Mississippi, Louisiana ans Alabama; Josh Severson is regional director for central and west Texas; Mark Lapierre is category manager of tobacco, warehouse snacks and merchandising; category manager Manny Shoemaker is now responsible for packaged beverages, beer, wine and direct-store delivery (DSD) snacks.
  • Chevron Corp. (ExtraMile, Caltex). Jennifer Miller (formerly Schuster) married. She is category manager for candy/sweet snacks, general merchandise/HBC, grocery.
  • The Parker Cos. People have come and gone this past year from The Parker Cos., including the departures of Steve Stempel and David Springer in foodservice and Louise Phelps, corporate communications.
  • Par Mar Oil Co. Inc. dba Par Mar Stores. Linda Martin, former foodservice category manager, is no longer with the company, and a replacement has not yet been named.
  • Petr-All Petroleum Corp. (Express Mart). Founder and CEO Frank Borer died Dec. 5, 2014.
  • Plaid Pantry Inc. Jonathan Polonsky has been named chief operating officer. He joined the Oregon chain in 2012 as executive vice president.
  • Reid Stores Inc. (Crosby's). Darrin Barber, former director of sales and merchandising, has been named director of operations. His former position had not yet been filled.
  • Vintners Distributors Inc./AU Energy (Loop Neighborhood). Tracee Danchak left in December and Eva Amezquita joined the company as senior category manager, responsible for foodservice, publications, propane, dairy, non-edible grocery, frozen foods, gift cards, packaged sweets and frozen dispensed beverages.
  • Wawa Inc. Wendi Clauss is product development manager and John Montmore is category manager for packaged beverages.
  • Weigel's Stores Inc. Charlotte Havely, marketing director, has been added to the CSPedia profile.

In the News

  • Bullock Oil Co. (Cowboys) moved its headquarters from Pendleton to LaGrange, Ky. The company now has 10 locations.
  • Arkansas chain Coulson Oil dba SuperStop, Maxmart, Road Runner spun off its fuel service, testing and equipment business by former Diamond State Equipment LLC (DSE). DSE is a Gilbarco Veeder-Root distributor.
  • Express Convenience Centers (U.S. Oil, U.S. Venture Inc.) is moving out of retail, selling its 10 remaining company-operated stores and transitioning its franchising locations to a licensing model. The Wisconsin chain has 34 company-operated or franchise locations.
  • Michigan-based Forward Corp. dba: Forward Food Marts has changed its POS system to PDI for its 29 locations, and has two new stores planned.
  • Newcomb Oil Co. dba FiveStar Food Marts purchased six Gate stores, and two stores were added in Paducah, Ky. The Kentucky chain currently has 104 locations and is poised for strong growth with a forecast of four to five new stores in 2015.
  • Kansas chain Pete's Corp. (Pump'n Pete's) dba Pete's Convenient Stores acquired 15 stores from Missouri-based Grace Energy and converted them to the Pete's format. The chain launched the Kickback Rewards loyalty program at its 43 stores.
  • Red Hed Oil Co. dba Redi Mart is looking to expand its loyalty program. The Kentucky chain has 20 locations.
  • Road Ranger LLC is selling its convenience store assets to GPM Investments and shifting focus to its truckstops. The chain is based in Rockford, Ill.
