7-Eleven comes in at No. 4 in ranking of "best of the best" franchise companies

SAN FRANCISCO -- 7-Eleven Inc. ranked fourth in online media and e-commerce companyAllbusiness.com's first AllBusiness AllStar Franchise ranking. Editors analyzed more than 700 franchise systems to compile the list of 300 franchises. Quick-serve restaurant chain Subway topped the list.

San Francisco-based Allbusiness took into account financial health using analysis from its parent company Dun and Bradstreet, as well as web visibility.

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven came in at No.4 (click here for details).

It ranks high in several categories, but most notably in growth, where it ranked No. 2 overall. A two-pronged strategyto convert 7-Eleven's company-owned and -operated stores to franchises, and to attract existing convenience store operators as franchiseesis behind this impressive growth, Allbusiness said.

President and CEO Joe DePinto, who came on board in 2006, believes the conversion to franchises will make the company more efficient, help it benefit from the hands-on experience and knowledge of franchisees and provide a better experience to customers. The Dallas-based company hopes to have most of its stores converted by 2012. The second facet of the growth plan is a rebranding program that allows existing c-store operators to rebrand their stores under the 7-Eleven name.

In tandem with its aggressive growth focus, 7-Eleven has been remodeling thousands of stores and is continually working to strengthen its product mix, technology and infrastructure. With Americans' continuing desire for convenience, the company is well positioned for the future, said Allbusiness.

Other notable industry companies included Circle K at No. 55 and Hot Stuff Foods at No. 252.
