Michels, one of her 11 locations, honored for customer satisfaction, sales, efficiencies

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Shannon Michels, a Kum & Go LC associate since 1998, recently received the company's prestigious "2011 Supervisor of the Year" award.

This marks the third straight year the company has recognized the Minot, N.D., native. Michels, who resides in Williston, N.D., earned "2010 National Division Supervisor of the Year" and "2009 Turn-Around District of the Year."

Kum & Go Store 804 in Watford City, N.D.--one of 11 convenience stores Michels oversees in her district--was named the company's "2011 Store of the Year."

Kum & Go president and CEO Kyle J. Krause announced the 2011 honors at the company's annual awards dinner held in West Des Moines earlier this month.

According to Krause, Michels distinguished herself in the areas of customer satisfaction scores, strong sales and operational efficiencies.

"We have 31 talented supervisors who are passionate about our customers and our stores. Each year, we recognize our top performers in the field and celebrate their accomplishments. It was my pleasure to honor Shannon with this esteemed award which recognizes her excellent service to Kum & Go," said Krause.

The stores in Michels' district serve eight communities in western North Dakota, as well as one in Plentywood, Mont. When asked about the award, the 2011 honoree credited her store associates and the company's leaders.

"I am truly blessed to have such a great team on my side. It does not matter what challenges are presented to them; my whole team rises to the occasion. I would also like to thank our leaders at Kum & Go for giving us direction, support and the tools we need to accomplish our tasks," Michels said.

Michels also praised the staff at Kum & Go's store of the year, which is led by general manager Kristine Medeiros.

"We have an amazing team at the Watford City store. I see them give great customer service every day. They really care about their customers and know many of them by name. With the recent influx of people relocating here for work, our associates are quick to greet them with a smiling face and treat them like family. I am very proud of Kristine and her team for being the 'calm in the storm'."

From 1998 until her 2009 promotion to supervisor, Michels served as the manager of Kum & Go stores in Plentywood, Mont., and Minot, N.D. She was honored as Kum & Go's "1998 General Manager Rookie of the Year."

"It is such an honor to get to work for such an amazing company," said Michels. "I look forward to many more years with Kum & Go."
