The North Salt Lake, Utah-based chain expects to have added 25 stores this fiscal year (which ends March 31) and 30 sites next year, Don Lilyquist, Maverik permits manager, told CSP Daily News.
The company also is currently working through the permitting process for its first [image-nocss] store in Oregon, which will be located in Baker City. Lilyquist said the company has conditional approval and is waiting for Department of Transportation approval of access to the property. Weather permitting, that store will likely break ground in early spring, and the company is currently seeking other property in Oregon.
Maverik also plans to expand its new Washington efforts. It owns properties in Mead, Pasco and Cheney, for which Lilyquist is also working to obtain permits.
Although Maverik has locations in Reno and Elko, Nev., it is entering new territory in the state by tapping the Las Vegas markets for expansion, as well. Plans include Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson. A site in Pahrump, about 80 miles southwest of Las Vegas, should begin construction sometime this month.
Maverik's current states of operation include Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, Montana and Colorado. While Lilyquist said Maverik will continue some growth in those areas, he added, "In order to grow as rapidly as we want, we have to get into new territories where we don't already have stores."
Maverik operates 220 convenience stores that sell gasoline and fuel, fresh food from its bakeries, beverages and other merchandise.
