MARIETTA, Ga. -- RaceTrac Petroleum Inc. recently signed a 16-year lease on five floors of an office in Cobb County in Georgia, reported The Marietta Daily Journal.
RaceTrac has been based in Cobb County since 1976, company spokesperson Ashleigh Womack told the newspaper. After outgrowing its current office space in Cumberland, RaceTrac made the decision to relocate to the space in the Galleria campus to give the company room to expand, she said.
RaceTrac decided to keep its main office in Cumberland after finding out that many of its employees have moved to the area to be close to its current office, Womack added.
“As we were realizing that we had to make a decision about where to move because we’ve outgrown our current space and our lease is ending in 2017, we surveyed our store team members to get a sense of what they need and desire from their workplace,” Womack said. “We found that a lot of people have made their commuting and living decisions based on the current location of our office. That had a lot of weight in making sure that we stayed in Cobb.”
She said about 600 employees work out of RaceTrac’s current office, including executives and staff from accounting, marketing, real estate and human resources. The company does not have an estimate of how much the company’s staff might grow, Womack said, but the terms of the lease give RaceTrac the option to rent other floors in the office tower and historically, RaceTrac has seen 5% growth year over year at its main office, called the store support center.
The company aims to be moved in by late fall 2016, she added.
RaceTrac has more than 370 RaceTrac gas stations and convenience stores in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas, as well as more than 300 dealer-operated RaceWay gas stations and c-stores in 12 states.
