CARY, N.C. -- Kangaroo Express, operated by The Pantry Inc., is remodeling a new batch of convenience stores in the Fayetteville, N.C., area to feature new offerings and upgraded appearances as part of the "New at the Roo" program, including upgraded Bean Street Coffee offers and a broader assortment of fresh foods.

Currently in the fifth round of investments to Fayetteville-area stores, eight new Kangaroo Express stores now include upgrades as part of the program, adding to the 35 stores that the chain has refreshed over the past several months.

The renovations to these stores are examples of the investments Kangaroo Express is making in its communities across the southeastern United States, including plans to open more quick-serve restaurants in stores and remodel more than 150 stores, the company said.

To celebrate its investment in the local Fayetteville community, the most recently upgraded Kangaroo Express stores will be celebrating with special offers, family activities and a total of $3,750 in donations to local charities including Friends of Children and Habitat for Humanity of the North Carolina Sandhills. The company has made a total of more than $25,000 in donations to local Fayetteville-area organizations in celebration of the store investments.

Customers who visit Kangaroo Express stores enjoy a fast, friendly and clean store environment. As part of the "New at the Roo" program, participating stores feature upgraded Bean Street Coffee dispensers designed to preserve the freshness of the coffee. The spacious serving stations have upgraded coffee accessories including a variety of coffee flavors and additions such as extra boosts of caffeine and whipped topping, allowing consumers to customize their cup of Bean Street Coffee.

"With investments now made in more than 40 stores in Fayetteville, it's clear that Kangaroo Express is committed to a great shopping experience for our guests," said Melody Haney, region director at Kangaroo Express.

Customers at participating stores may also purchase iced tea and a broader assortment of fresh pastries. The new bakery case features glazed donuts, donut holes, muffins, cheese danishes and more.

The stores will offer month-long specials and promotions, including free coffee every Friday in January from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at recently remodeled stores and coupons valid at select Kangaroo Express locations across the Fayetteville area.

Select Kangaroo Express stores are holding celebration events during January featuring activities, giveaways and 25-cent hot dogs.

As of Dec. 10, 2013, The Pantry, based in Cary, N.C., operated 1,541 stores in 13 southeastern states under select banners, including its primary operating banner, Kangaroo Express. The stores offer hot and cold beverages, snacks, fresh foods, gasoline and an assortment of merchandise and services. It is home to more than 220 foodservice restaurants, including Subway and Dairy Queen.
