Stripes Paves the Way in Refugio, Texas

Installs new truck parking area made from sustainable recycled materials

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Stripes convenience store chain is paving the way for the future of truckstops with its first installation of a new environmentally safe truck parking area in Refugio, Texas. Recently, Stripes replaced its over-the-road truck parking lot at a store located in South Texas with a new technology called TrueGrid, a product made from post-consumer recycled polyolefin, which is environmentally safe and durable.

The new parking lot is a frontline solution to erosion control and storm water management. The Stripes team partnered with members of Truegrid and Refugio city officials to launch the new parking area for the betterment of the community, and to improve the experiences of Stripes customers.

"We are proud to offer a sustainable solution to the city of Refugio and the members of our community. The new truck parking area is environmentally safe and controls erosion," stated Richard Sebastian, senior vice president of facilities for Susser Holdings Corp., the parent company of Stripes LLC.

TrueGrid is made of 100% recycled plastic, and it can also be recycled itself. Reducing the amount of new plastic and reusing existing plastic helps the sustainability of the environment. The parking lot gravel is made from post-recycled material and is able to support heavy vehicles.

The new parking area is now open for Stripes customers to use.

"It was wonderful working with Stripes on this new environmentally friendly parking lot project from start to finish. This is great for the Refugio community, and the parking lot is designed for longevity and sustainability," said Mayor Joey Heard of Refugio, Texas.

Corpus Christi, Texas-based Susser is a third-generation, family-led business with more than 1,240 company-operated or contracted locations. It is the parent company of Stripes and owns the general partner of Susser Petroleum Partners LP. The company operates more than 630 c-stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, more than 580 under the Stripes banner and 47 under the Sac-N-Pac banner. Restaurant service is available in more than 400 stores, primarily under the proprietary Laredo Taco Co. brand. The wholesale division distributes approximately 1.6 billion gallons of motor fuel annually to Stripes stores, independently operated consignment locations, convenience stores and retail fuel outlets operated by independent operators and other commercial customers in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
