Susser Sees 2nd-Quarter Growth

Expecting same-store merchandise sales upticks for three-month, six-month periods

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Susser Holdings Corp., which operates more than 510 convenience stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma under the Stripes and Town & Country banners, said yesterday that it expects to report same-store merchandise sales growth for the second quarter of 2009 of approximately 4.6%. Retail average per-store fuel volumes are expected to increase by 6.5% year over year. Susser will officially release its second-quarter 2009 results on August 5

For the first six months of the year, Susser expects to report an increase in same-store merchandise [image-nocss] sales of approximately 5.2% year over year, the company announced. Retail average per-store fuel volumes are expected to be 5.5% higher.

For its first quarter ended March 29, 2009, Susser Holdings reported that same-store merchandise sales increased by 6%.

At the time, Susser Holdings president and chief executive officer Sam L. Susser said, "As we look to the seasonally stronger spring quarter, we expect ongoing growth in merchandise sales."

Meanwhile, in other Susser Holdings news, Stripes and Town & Country Stores are the first retailers to deploy Ready Wireless LLC's new Unlimited voice plans and handsets. The new plans are designed to help prepaid customers manage their cash flow while still gaining access to the trend toward unlimited calling. The plans are $9.99 for three days, $14.99 for seven days. Customers also receive a bundle of text messages with each plan.

"Stripes is committed to offering our customers convenience and flexibility whenever and wherever possible. These shorter term plans deliver that flexibility within the prepaid phone category, and we're excited to bring them to market for our customers," said Ben Hoffmeyer, Stripes prepaid services category manager.

Hiawatha, Iowa-based Ready Wireless is a leading provider of prepaid wireless services. The company offers its Ready Mobile PCS and Trumpet Mobile brands throughout the United States using Sprint's national network. The company delivers a suite of prepaid mobile solutions for national chain retail partners including inventory management, merchandising support and dedicated account management.

Corpus Christi, Texas-based Susser Holdings is a third-generation, family led business. Restaurant service is available in more than 290 of its stores, primarily under the proprietary Laredo Taco Co. and Country Cookin' brands. The company also supplies branded motor fuel to approximately 370 independent dealers through its wholesale fuel division.
