Capital-Journal readers pick best area c-store in annual voting

TOPEKA, Kansas -- A knowledgeable staff, friendly atmosphere and a wide variety of products are a few of the reasons Kwik Shop has once again been named the Best Convenience Store in the Best of Topeka voting, said The Topeka Capital-Journal.

"We at Kwik Shop are greatly honored to be named the Best Convenience Store in Topeka," Brian Fisher, vice president of operations, told the newspaper, which has been holding the annual voting for 21 years.

"We are proud to serve, be a part of the community and will continue to earn our customers' loyalty with each and every visit. Thank you, Topeka," he said.

The company has 10 stores in the Topeka, Kansas, market, where it has operated for 34 years.

Fisher said that a number of things makes the stores stand out: "A staff who is knowledgeable, efficient and helpful. We have clean stores, fast service and a friendly atmosphere. We have what the customer wants when the customer wants it. Customers can also take part in the Kwik Shop/Dillons Fuel Points Program and save up to $2 per gallon based on points accumulated through Kwik Shop and Dillons."
He added that "clean stores and a friendly atmosphere" make the chain stand out. "Our stores are all about people. We do sell gas and groceries, but most of our time is spent with people."

In the past year, Kwik Shop built two new stores and is expanding it offering; it will also remodel some stores in the coming year, Fisher told the paper.

The chain is a unit of Cincinnati, Ohio-based The Kroger Co., which operates 2,435 supermarkets in 31 states under two-dozen local banners. Kroger also operates more than 1,090 supermarket fuel centers and 791 c-stores in 18 states: Pueblo, Colo.-based Loaf 'N Jug in Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming; Lancaster, Pa.-based Turkey Hill Minit Markets in Pennsylvania; Crestview, Fla.-based Tom Thumb Food Stores in Florida and Alabama; Hutchinson, Kansas-based Kwik Shop in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska; Fremont Calif.-based Quik Stop Markets in California and Nevada, and Salt Lake City-based Smith's Express in Utah.
