Truckstop Chains Growing

TA opens Petro in N.M.; Pilot Flying J to open Va., Mich. sites

WESTLAKE, Ohio & KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Major truckstop and travel center chains TravelCenters of America LLC and Pilot Flying J Corp. are both expanding.

TA has announced the acquisition and rebranding of the former Savoy Travel Center to the Petro Stopping Centers brand. Petro Deming is located at I-10, exit 68, in Deming, N.M.

The opening of this location raises the number of full-service travel centers in the TA and Petro Stopping Centers branded chain to 241.

Amenities at the new Petro include 150 truck parking spaces on a spacious lot; 10 diesel lanes; a fully stocked 8,250-square-foot travel store; 135-seat full-serve, sitdown restaurant; a TA Truck Service repair facility with three service bays; nine showers; emergency roadside service, available 24/7/365; and the UltraONE Rewards Program kiosk and swiping system.

A variety of additional features and comforts for professional drivers, including a driver's lounge, can be found at the Deming Petro location. There is also a separate gasoline island with six dispensers for motorists.

"We are pleased to acquire this location and open it as our newest Petro, and glad for the opportunity to preserve existing jobs and create new jobs in Deming," said Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters, operator of the TA and Petro brands. "Petro Deming is about in the middle of a 170-mile gap on I-10 in New Mexico between our two next closest locations. Finally, professional drivers can find a real full-service truckstop on a lengthy stretch of interstate where before only limited choices existed."

TravelCenters of America, based in Westlake, Ohio, is a leading travel center business in 41 states and Canada operating under the TA and Petro Stopping Centers brands. With 241 convenient locations off interstate highway exits, TA and Petro offer customers diesel and gasoline fueling services, nearly 500 full- and quick-service restaurants, 24-hour convenience stores, heavy-truck maintenance services, RoadSquad Connect (24/7/365 emergency roadside service), electronic communication (WiFi), and many other services, all within large, high-traffic facilities.

Separately, Pilot Flying J recently announced plans to open two new travel centers in August.

The new stores include a Pilot Travel Center in Harrisonburg, Va., off Interstate 81 at exit 251 as well as a Pilot Travel Center in Port Huron, Mich., off Interstate 69 at exit 196. The Harrisonburg location will open on August 13, and the Port Huron store will open August 20.

"Pilot Flying J is always on the lookout for new store locations that will add to our North American network in order to better serve our customers," said Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Haslam. "As the driver-driven company, the convenience of our customers is always a top priority, and their needs largely drive the business decisions of the company."
