Wawa Launches Mass Hiring Push

Retailer plans to employ 5,000 new team members within three months

WAWA, Pa. -- Retailer Wawa Inc. has launched its spring hiring campaign to recruit 5,000 new customer-service and management employees for its 750 convenience stores. Some units will host open houses every Wednesday from March 29 through April 19 as a part of “Wawa Career Wednesdays.”

“We’re specifically looking for individuals who enjoy serving others, who want to join our team for the busy summer season, and as well those who might be interested in the start of a fulfilling career at Wawa,” said Dave Filano, the company's manager of talent acquisition.

Wawa, based in Wawa, Pa., is employing store signage to market the open houses and encourage potential recruits to apply online before attending. During the events, hiring managers will give candidates a short first interview and explain the chain’s culture and values.

Last year, Wawa followed competitor Sheetz Inc. in upping its customer service starting salary to $10 an hour. The chain also offers health benefits, flexible schedules, tuition reimbursement and a stock ownership plan for employees.
