Total opens motorcycle- , scooter-specific gas station in Paris area
PARIS -- The fact that motorcycles and scooters are getting more popular because of fuel-price increases worldwide has led French oil company Total to start looking at these vehicles as a real market, according to motorcycle blog TopSpeed.com.

Total recently opened a prototype gas station designed only for motorcycles in the Paris suburbs of L'Isle Adam, the report said. Four-wheeled vehicles are not welcome and will not fit, and the pump has features designed specifically for bikers.

The dispensers have the controls at mid height, meaning a customer can remain seated on [image-nocss] the motorcycle while using the pump. There is also a compartment for a helmet if the customer wants to take it off. The pump instructions are in French, English and German, said the report.

Also, the nozzle is shorter than the car variant. This means that the customer can place the nozzle and actually see if the tank is filling up, not find out when the fuel runs over.

The floor has been treated with a special anti-slip paint.

Another motorcycle-friendly part of this station is the cleaning area. The pressure cleaning station uses wax and medium-pressure water. It also has rotating narrow brushes that can be used to clean in between spokes. There is a waterproof compartment for helmets, gloves, backpacks and other belongings. The same place also has an air compressor for tires. The final cleaning phase includes a blow drying area.
