New Store: QuickChek

Replacement store is first in N.Y. with Q Café

ULSTER, N.Y. -- QuickChek Corp. brought its first Q Café to New York this week with the opening of a new, larger convenience store in Ulster, N.Y.

The Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based c-store chain opened the store at 640 Washington Ave. Monday to better serve the marketplace with a larger store, more fuel pumps and more than three times as many parking spaces. It will close its current, smaller location across the street.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and coffee toast was held Monday, Aug. 26, with the store’s official grand opening to the public Tuesday morning, Aug. 27, at 5 a.m. New-store promotions include free medium hot coffee and 20-ounce iced coffee to all customers and free 20-ounce fountain drinks for children 5 feet tall and under from Aug. 27 through Sept. 8, 2013.

“We pride ourselves in serving the needs of our customers,” said QuickChek CEO Dean Durling. “We have continued to invest in Ulster to meet those needs. Purchasing the property across the street and increasing the size of the store allows us to better serve the market and provide our customers with more food options, more fueling stations and much more parking.”

QuickChek’s “Made Fresh for You” food and beverage program features oven-toasted subs and fresh baked goods with the company priding itself on its fresh-brewed coffee, renowned for its high quality and wide variety of coffees roasted using a proprietary, select blend that incorporates only the world’s finest beans.

QuickChek stores are large by industry standards with the company maintaining bright, clean stores, well-lit fuel stations and parking lots with large, easy-to-use entrances and exits that add to a shopper’s convenience.

The new 6,584-square-foot store is more than double the size of the current store’s 2,870 footage, providing consumers with a larger selection of fresh brewed coffee, soups and fountain drinks. It will also have the first Q Café in the state with indoor and outdoor seating. The number of fueling stations will double from 12 to 24 pumps.

The new store will have 70 parking spaces, compared to 19 at the current location to better accommodate customer’s on-site parking requirements and improve their shopping experience.

QuickChek operates 136 retail locations throughout New Jersey and Southern New York, with 11 locations in the Hudson Valley. The family-owned and -operated chain enjoys the rare distinction of being named one of the Best Places to Work for in both New Jersey and New York states. A typical new store generates approximately $1 million in tax revenue and creates 35-50 new jobs, positively impacting the local economy.

The company will move its existing employees into the new store and will hire additional team members from the local community to meet the demands of the larger location.

“We strive to be the neighborhood shopping destination close to where our customers live,” said Durling. “Our business has been built on the principles of total customer dedication.”
