WILMINGTON, Del. -- Wawa Inc. announced the celebration of its newest additiona brand new store in Wilmington, Del. To mark the grand opening of the new store, Wawa has challenged the Mill Creek Fire Department and a team representing the United States Marine Reserves to battle it out in a Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building competition. On Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, Wawa executives and local officials will cut the ceremonial ribbon to commemorate the official opening of the new Wawa Store. After a brief training session, the Mill Creek Fire Department will take on the Marines in a battle of bravery, skill and sandwich-making expertise. Each team will be challenged to build as many hoagies as they can in three minutes, in the traditional Wawa way.

The winning team will receive a $1,000 donation on their behalf to the charity of their choice; Wawa will also make a $500 charitable contribution on behalf of the second-place team. The Marine Reserve charity is Toys for Tots, and the Fire Department is building on behalf of the National Fallen Firefighters Fund.

"Our Hoagies for Heroes competition is a fun way to celebrate our store and thank our local heroes for giving back so much to our community every day."
